Alec Baldwin Thrown Off Airplane
Okay, Mr. Baldwin, what were you thinking here?
Alec Baldwin was kicked off an American Airlines flight Tuesday after he refused to turn off his cell phone at Los Angeles International Airport because he was in the middle of playing a game called “Words With Friends.” Words With Friends, in case anybody doesn’t know, is essentially an online Scrabble game.
Baldwin wrote on his Twitter account: “Flight attendant on American [Airlines] reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving.”
This was followed with more Tweets, including: “Now on the 3 o’clock American flight. The flight attendants already look…..smarter” and “Last flight w/American. Where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950’s find jobs as flight attendants.”
In a statement that seems like pretty nice bit of press for the aforementioned word game, Baldwin’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, said, “Alec was asked to leave the flight for playing ‘Words with Friends‘ while parked at the gate. He loves WWF so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it, but he has already boarded another AA flight.”
Alec! You’re a Hamptons hero and we love all the good you do for the community here, but everybody knows that you have to have done something fairly egregious to be thrown off of an airplane. If a flight crew member tells you to put your seat up, YOU PUT YOUR SEAT UP! And if you are supposed to get off your cell phone, YOU DO THAT, TOO. You were on your way home from being honored at an event for the People For the American Way Foundation on Monday night—it’s a shame people aren’t buzzing about that news instead.
