A New Supermarket Could Be In Your Westhampton Future
Andrew Mendelson, a developer in Westhampon, gave a petition to Westhampon Village Hall in support of changing the zoning code in the village that would allow supermarkets on two lots of land that he owns.
He is hoping that with approval, he will be able to build a 40,000 squre foot supermarket on 4.2 acres off of Old Riverhead Road. He believes that it will be good for the community and has expressed that many residents are leaving to go to Hampton Bays or Riverhead for their supermarket needs and it is taking money out of the Village.
Others however say that there is no need for a new supermarket and that the grocery chain Walbaum’s, which has a store in Westhampton, keeps them in town.
