Southampton Hospital's New Handicap Parking Nearing Completion
Construction on new handicap parking at Southampton Hospital has been underway for more than a month and should open for use in the next several weeks. The site, formerly a grassy area on the Hospital’s southern Herrick Road perimeter, will provide 17 parking spaces for use by handicapped patients and those who are using the Hospital’s rehabilitation services. All spaces will be reserved for vehicles with handicap identification. Vehicles without handicap identification may drop patients off at the new, handicap accessible, automated door leading from the lot to the Hospital’s first floor and a nearby elevator.
In making the announcement, Hospital President and CEO Robert S. Chaloner notes, “While the Hospital provides valet parking service at our front entrance on Meeting House Lane, the majority of our rehabilitation patients prefer to use the Herrick Road entrance. With Southampton Village parking regulations on Herrick limiting the number of available spaces and carrying a 2-hour time restraint, the Hospital determined that creating a new lot was the only solution to enabling our patients to have safe and easy access to our services.”
