Peconic Bay Water Jitney Begins Service Today
Peconic Jitney Corporation, a partnership between Hampton Jitney, Inc. and Response Marine, Inc., announces the launch of their ferry service offering direct transportation between Greenport and Sag Harbor Villages. Led by Response Marine’s Jim Ryan, the 53 passenger water jitney will begin service on Thursday, June 28th 2012 and run for the remainder of the summer season.
“The water jitney helps to address the lack of north and south bound transportation options on the East End, and we believe it will also promote the areas natural assets helping to stimulate economic growth,” said Hampton Jitney President Geoffrey Lynch.
The service operates 7 days a week averaging 7 round trips per day. A full schedule is available on www.peconicjitney.com. One way travel time is roughly 45 minutes. Adult one way fare is $11 and roundtrip fare is $20. A free shuttle will pick up Peconic Jitney passengers at the Lumber Lane municipal lot in East Hampton 45 minutes prior to Sag Harbor departures and at the Sag Harbor School parking lot on Jermain Avenue 30 minutes prior to departures. Parking is also free of charge. Peconic Jitney reservations can be scheduled on the website or by calling a reservation agent at 631.702.8300.
Passengers on both sides can connect with Suffolk County Transit as well as with the Hampton Jitney’s scheduled service to NYC.
