Hamptons residents will be happy to know that an endangered sea turtle was rescued in Long Island South north of Mt. Sinai last Monday.
The rescue was assisted by the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau after they got a radio call from a nearby boat that the large turtle was caught in lobster pots.
Members of the Riverhead Foundation’s Rescue Program responded to aid the officers and spent three hours cutting the turtle free. The turtle was estimated to be at least 1000 pounds in weight.
