I'm Thinking About Throwing A $25,000 A Head Bar-B-Que
I’ve decided that politicians have it figured out. If you are going to have a bar-b-que in the Hamptons on a Friday afternoon, the best way to do it is to run for president and go to a fundraiser in the Hamptons.
Where I come from, when you throw a party, you invite people to your house and let them have a good time, free of charge. But in the presidential fundraising world, PEOPLE PAY to go to SOMEBODY ELSE’S house, just to hang out with you. Your job is to show up and maybe give a speech.
Not only did Mitt Romney pull this off perfectly recently, but he’s done it twice, convincing some of the richest people in the Hamptons to throw him a party and raise him money.
Romney had fundraisers hosted for him at John Griffin’s house, a hedge fund manager and the founder of Blue Ridge Capital, as well as at Ron Perelman’s, who is one of the richest guys in the world. The cost for the most recent one was $25,000 a plate.
Not too shabby.
That’s how you throw a party in the damn Hamptons. Now who wants to have me at their next barbeque?
