Rita Wilson at WHBPAC and Other Outstanding Show To Come
Rita Wilson has captivated audiences for years on screen, in films like “Sleepless in Seattle, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and “It’s Complicated”, but it wasn’t until recently that she has dazzled a new and broader audience on stage, with her talent for singing.
Wilson credits her musical influences to 60s and 70s artists like The Beatles, The Mamas & the Papas, Janis Joplin, James Taylor and the Eagles, just to name a few. She recorded her debut album at the famed Capital Records Studio A in Hollywood which includes special collaborations with; Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Webb, Jackson Browne, Faith Hill, Vince Gill and Patty Scialfa.
Her debut album entitled “AM/FM” features her first single “Come See About Me” (produced by Patty Scialfa.) The album, released this past May includes classic popular songs from the 60s and 70s like: “Cherish”, “Come See About Me”, “Angel of the Morning”, “All I Have to Do Id Dream” and “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”, to name a few stand-outs. Rita embraces music from all genres, and admires many of today’s new artists like; Beyonce, Pink and Katy Perry.
In recent years, Wilson has played the role of Roxie Hart in “Chicago” on Broadway, recorded the track “Lessons Learned” written by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Diane Warren for “The Trap” (a short film she directed), and produced the on-stage Broadway version of “Mama Mia.” “I’ve always loved people who express themselves through music.” And, now Wilson’s dream has become a reality. In addition to Rita’s anticipated show, WHBPAC is overflowing with other popular artists, events and special celebrations starting with the August 25 magical show “Momix”, a spectacular mix of physical theater, circus athleticism and comedy. Artistic Director Moses Pendleton combines athletic dance, compelling music, magical lighting, amazing costumes and show-stopping props. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. and tickets are $85, $70, $55.
On Sunday, August 26 Megan Mullally performs at 8:30 p.m. The Emmy Award-winning actress who shined on TV’s “Will & Gace” is also a talented singer. She starred with Rosie O’Donnell in “Grease” and opposite Broadway icon Matthew Broderick in “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.” Mullally will be accompanied by pianist Seth Rudetsky, the popular Broadway host on Sirius Satellite Radio. The Go-Go’s perform on Monday, August 27 at 8:30 p.m. Sing, dance and enjoy the sounds of the ladies that Rock! Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock and Kathy Valentine will take you back to the 80s with songs like “Vacation”, “We Got The Beat”, “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “Head Over Heels”. A special screening of “Farewell My Queen” directed by Benoit Jacquot comes to WHBPAC. The tale retold of the chaos that eventually would be the downfall of Marie Antoinette is portrayed on film in the final days before the Revolution. Diane Kruger is astonishing in her portrayal of the Queen. French/Italian/German. Showings are: August 28, 30, 31 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10, $7, $3.
Larry Chance and The Earls Co-starring Jay Siegel’s Tokens, the music group that defines the Doo Wop Era performs on September 1 at 8:30 p.m. The amazing harmonies and smooth sounds of the Doo Wop Era have been entertaining audiences for decades. Enjoy classics like “Life Is But A Dream”, “Remember Then”, “Tonight I Fell In Love” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. Larry Chance and The Earls Co-starring Jay Siegel’s Tokens will surely keep you out of your seats and dancing to the music. Tickets are $55, $45, $35.
And finally, John Pinette will have you laughing hysterically. Right off the coattails of his starring role in Broadway’s musical hit “Hairspray” playing the role of Edna Turnblad is Comedy Central’s star of “Still Hungry” and “I’m Starvin”, comedian John Pinette performs. Don’t miss this special night on September 2 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $95, $80, $65.
