Disgraced Lawyer Marc Dreir Has A Documentary About His Ponzi Scheme Coming To CNBC
“It’s easy to say that you would never cross the line, but the line is presented to very few people.”
If it wasn’t for Bernie Madoff, the most famous ponzi schemer America would most likely be Marc Dreir, who was a lawyer with a large practice in New York, along with a yacht, homes in the Hamptons and power. Before he was a criminal, he was a successful lawyer, with degrees from Yale and Harvard.
But it all came crashing down when he figured out a way to make money by selling fake investment securities to hedge funds, and then used the money to run his lavish lifestyle.
Drier’s $400 million ponzi scheme was never front page news, because he was arrested right around the time Bernie Madoff was arrested.
It’s an incredible story, and CNBC is going to broadcast a documentary on Mr. Dreir, that was filmed during his 60 days of his house arrest. It’s one of the few movies out there that puts you directly inside the mind of a white collar criminal. Before his arrest, Drier was a well known figure in the Hamptons, attending charity events and fundraisers, as well as being in the middle of a real estate battle for a Westhampton Beach home.
Below is a trailer of the film “Unraveled”, and it looks to be very interesting and compelling.
