Artist Michael McDowell Is Having An Opening Tonight At The Monika Olko Gallery
Springs artist Michael McDowell is somebody that everybody in East Hampton loves. He’s a very cool guy and he’s a master painter.
Michael is one of those artists that had to be talked into showing his work seriously by his friends. He’s a private guy, and a few years back, a group in East Hampton convinced him that he simply had to start showing his work to the public. When he finally did, the buzz around him grew dramatically, and since then his work is recognized as some of the best on the East End.
Tonight at the Monika Olko Gallery in Sag Harbor, this Springs artist will be having an opening reception party, and his paintings have these amazing lines of color that dramatically display light across the canvas. A trademark of his that strikes my mind is his ability to capture the face of a woman with a streak of light running across her face. His use of light interpretation gives a dramatic effect that draws you into the painting. He’s one of those few artists of only a select group in East Hampton that not only gains respect from the public, but from other artists as well, who always seem to praise his work.
The opening begins at 5 p.m. and is scheduled to run until 8 p.m., but will most likely run a little longer. I’ll be there.
