Tory Burch May Have Lost $10 Million in Hamptons Real Estate, but She Just Made a Billion Dollars
Well, somebody named Tory Burch is starting the new year right. The famous fashion designer and business woman who sold her home in the Hamptons at a loss of around $10 million dollars, literally just became a billionaire.
Bloomberg reported today that Burch‘s ex-husband Chris Burch sold about half of his 28.3 percent stake in New York-based retailer Tory Burch LLC on December 31, settling a year-old legal dispute between the couple, and Tory Burch is now officially a billionaire because of it.
Well…that’s awesome.
Can you imagine waking up one day and finding out your a billionaire? I mean, what would you do about it? Travel? Party? Philanthropy? I guess I’d do it all. I’d be so good at being a billionaire it’s not even funny. First off, everybody, no matter where I went, would get free drinks. The first thing I’d do when I walk into any restaurant would be to buy everybody in the restaurant whatever they wanted. Secondly, I’d hire local people randomly all of the time to do good things for other people. Like I’d give a guy $500 to just walk around town and pick up garbage for an hour, or I’d hire a local musician to play classical music in a public place, or I’d hire a guy to randomly walk up to people and give each of them a gift card to the movies.
Billionaire. I mean, you can do anything for anybody at any time, and people around you know that as well, so you have to deal with that also.
I probably wouldn’t change that much if I made that kind of money. I mean, how much can you really spend? I’m not saying that I don’t want to find out how much I could spend, I’m just saying, other then the worries of paying bills, not much changes, at least that’s what I’ve consistently read whenever I think about what it’s like to go from having no money to having millions.
I think about this a lot. When I was a teenager, I had a job but couldn’t imagine myself having more than $1,000 in the bank. And then when I got that, I just wanted to save more. Today, I’m the same way, I just want to save more even when I make more.
But if you make a billion dollars, I mean, you would think that your mindset changes at that point. But maybe it doesn’t. It seems to me that billionaires want to do nothing else but ensure that they will make more money, which is the same desire as everybody else. So maybe it really never does end.
Sorry, I’m just being philosophical for a moment. If you see Tory Burch somewhere today, give her a congratulatory smile.
