Katy's Courage Raised Over $13,000 at Second Annual Skate-a-thon
Katy’s Courage raised $13,503.80 at the Second Annual Skate-a-thon at Buckskill Winter Club on Sunday. Although the event was originally scheduled for Saturday and postponed due to the snowstorm.
As a former student of Katy’s father Jim Stewart at East Hampton High School, this news is always bittersweet.
Pink, Katy’s favorite color, adorned Buckskill Winter Club with ribbons, streamers and Katybug logos everywhere and on everything down to the tickets. There were 75 pink flags flying throughout the club grounds, pink helium balloons, a big pink heart and a Katybug logo painted on the ice.
Katy’s Courage is a not-for-profit organization created to honor Katy Stewart, an inspirational 12-year-old girl who died from hepatoblastoma, a rare form of pediatric liver cancer, is dedicated in the fields of education, pediatric cancer research and bereavement counsel to help families and young people through scholarships, donations and a long-term investment in creating a childhood bereavement center on the East End.
