Anderson Cooper to Receive GLAAD Vito Russo Award
Congratulations, Anderson Cooper! Quiogue’s favorite newsman and talk show host will soon receive the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation’s (GLAAD) highest honor. The annual Vito Russo Award “is presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality.”
Cooper will receive the award at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Saturday, March 16, at the New York Marriot Marquis in Manhattan. And he won’t be the only Hamptons resident in attendance.
Smash, produced by East Hampton director Steven Spielberg and starring Hamptons star Debra Messing, and True Blood starring Sag Harbor’s Chris Bauer, were both nominated for Outstanding Drama Series.
The Daily Show, hosted by North Haven comedian Jon Stewart, was nominated for Outstanding Talk Show Episode, and East Hampton journalist Bryant Gumbel got the nod for Outstanding TV Journalism–Newsmagazine for “The Last Closet,” a story on HBO‘s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.
Cooper was also nominated in the Outstanding TV Journalism Segment category for “Controversial Pastor Preaches Against Gays,” which aired on CNN‘s Anderson Cooper 360. Last year, the news anchor won a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Journalism for his special, “The Sissy Boy Experiments,” which aired on AC360 in 2011.
