100 Songs of Summer #7 "Soak Up the Sun” by Sheryl Crowe
Lucky number seven in the 100 Songs of Summer Countdown is an ode to the biggest star of all (at least to us Earthlings). What would the season be without our favorite flaming ball of helium and hydrogen? That’s right, the sun is king in summertime, so let’s soak it up before the seasons change.
Hamptons 100 Songs of Summer #7
“Soak Up the Sun” by Sheryl Crowe
While the sun’s power comes from nuclear fusion, Sheryl Crowe’s love song to it runs on her rich voice (and backing vocals by Liz Phair) and toe-tapping riffs. “Soak Up the Sun” debuted as the lead single on Crowe’s 2002 album C’mon C’mon. It was another big hit for the singer-songwriter and the remix by DJ Victor Calderone became her only song to hit number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.
Add this essential tune to your summer playlist, then lay out and catch some East End rays before it’s too late. Soon we’ll be talking about the “Hazy Shade of Winter” and, despite it being a great Bangles song, no one wants that.
