Body Found off Montauk After Man Reported Missing
Boaters off Montauk Point Sunday afternoon discovered a body in the water, according to New York State park police, one day after multiple police agencies conducted a search by land, sea and air in Montauk for a missing Ronkonkoma man.
Police said the 27-year-old man’s vehicle was found parked at Montauk Point State Park after his family reported him missing to Suffolk County police Saturday. Park police, East Hampton Town police and harbor master, U.S. Coast Guard personnel, New York State police, Suffolk County sheriff’s office personnel, and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers worked together on the search, including canine units.
Around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the boaters called in the body, police said. The Coast Guard pulled the body from the water, and the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office was charged with making a positive identification.
State park police are requesting anyone with information call 631-321-3700. Police said calls will be kept confidential.
