Hamptons Spelling and Grammar: Westhampton
When dealing with “Westhampton” it is not just a matter of spelling, but geography as well.
Westhampton is an unincorporated hamlet in Southampton Town. Westhampton Beach is a village, and distinct from Westhampton. Along Dune Road, with a population of 55 as of the 2010 census, is another village, West Hampton Dunes, which was incorporated in 1993. Why did this newest village make “West Hampton” two words? Just to keep you on your toes.
Do you have it all straight?
Westhampton, a hamlet
Westhampton Beach, a village
West Hampton Dunes, a village
Westhampton Beach is home to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, which is often abbreviated WHBPAC despite Westhampton being considered one word in the title.
West of West Hampton Dunes is Cupsogue Beach County Park. The county beach is located in unincorporated Westhampton, though the only way to drive there is through both West Hampton Dunes and Westhampton Beach.
Often considered part of the Greater Westhampton area are Quogue Village, Quiogue, Remsenburg and Speonk.
