Southampton Police Recover Stolen Vehicle, Arrest Two
Southampton Town police said they arrested a homeless man local to Hampton Bays and a Hampton Bays teenager after tracking down a stolen SUV.
The victim reported Monday that around 10 p.m. her 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander was taken from Bel Air Cove on Shinnecock Road in Hampton Bays, according to police. Patrol officers and detectives responded to investigate.
The vehicle was found driving north on Flanders Road in Hampton Bays, near the Bellows Pond Road intersection, police said.
The driver, 28-year-old John Z. Martinolich, who police said is homeless, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property. both felonies, as well as seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors.
The passenger, 18-year-old Stephen Mineo of Hampton Bays, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
Both men were taken to Southampton Town Justice Court for arraignment.
