5 Top Picks for Day 1 of Hamptons Film Festival
In addition to being among the first to screen critically acclaimed films, the Hamptons International Film Festival has many opportunities to hob nob with celebrities, including at tonight’s festival opening party. Catch a flick or two—or three—on day one of the festival, and enjoy East Hampton Village.
Here are five picks for how to spend day one of the festival.
1. Opening Night Film Kill Your Darlings
This much buzzed about film is already sold out, but if you have a Founders Pass or similar credential, you may still be able to see it without a ticket. Kill Your Darlings is set during the early ’40s when Allen Ginsberg, Lucien Carr, Jack Kerouac, and William Burroughs first come into contact in New York City.
Kill Your Darlings will play on two screens, one at East Hampton Cinema at 7:30 p.m. and one at Guild Hall at 7 p.m. After the film, stick around for a discussion with actors and filmmakers.
2.Opening Night Party at East Hampton Point
Everyone will be talking about the Hamptons International Film Festival opening party. It begins at 9 p.m. at East Hampton Point. Stars, up-and-coming actors, filmmakers and Hollywood journalists will be on the list.
3. The Broken Circle Breakdown
Director Felix van Groeningen’s The Broken Circle Breakdown is a portrait of a relationship between a brutish bachelor musician and the tattoo artist whose love changes him.
See it at 1:30 p.m. at East Hampton Cinema, or catch it Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Southampton Cinema.
4. Get The Picture
Here is a pick for fans of documentaries and photojournalism. Get The Picture reveals the fascinating story of war photographers —a group so concerned with documenting humanity they’ve risked everything to reveal conflicts at their most extreme.
See it at 4:45 p.m. at East Hampton Cinema or catch it there Friday at 6:45 p.m.
5. Jimmy P: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian
French Director Arnaud Desplechin’s Jimmy P stars Benicio Del Toro as World War II veteran and Native American Jimmy Picard, who is admitted to Kansas military mental health facility after returning from France.
See it at 1 p.m. at East Hampton Cinema today, or catch it at noon Monday in Southampton.
Be sure to always arrive at least 15 minutes early to a screening. Event admission require passes or tickets. Visit hamptonsfilmfest.org to check availability and purchase tickets, or visit a box office.
