Riverhead Man Arrested on Gun, Cocaine Charges
Riverhead police said a call of loud music at the Doctors Path Apartments led to a multi-felony drug and gun arrest.
A K-9 unit responded. An officer found a parked car in the south end of the parking lot with the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, according to police. The occupant, 35-year-old Willie E. Hopkins of Riverhead, had a burned joint and one ounce of cocaine, in powered and crack form, police said.
In a compartment in the Nissan Maxima, the officer found a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun, according to a police report, which said that Hopkins resisted arrest and had to be subdued.
Hopkins is charged with six felonies: four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is additional charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Hopkins was held for arraignment at Riverhead Justice Court.
