Teen Arrested in Springs Liquor Store Robbery
East Hampton Town police said Monday that a 19-year-old Springs resident arrested that day is responsible for Saturday’s robbery at Springs Wine and Liquors.
Police said a man walked into the liquor store on Springs Fireplace Road at 4:53 p.m. and confronting the clerk, saying he had a gun and would use it. The man took cash from the register and ran off, headed west on Fort Pond Boulevard toward Three Mile Harbor Road, according to a police statement.
Detective Lieutenant Chris Anderson said that based on a witness description, video surveillance and tips from the community, detectives were able to link John X. Tracy III to the robbery. Tracy was arrested Monday while driving a gray 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck on Norfolk Drive in Springs as he was leaving his house, Anderson said. He added that while the truck is not registered in Tracy’s name, Tracy is known to drive it and detectives suspected he used the truck during the robbery.
Tracy is charged with first-degree robbery, a felony. He will be arraigned Tuesday in East Hampton Town Justice Court.
