Cops: Burglar Found Hiding in Shed
A burglar is being held on $10,000 bail after breaking into a gas station then hiding out in a shed, according to Riverhead police.
Police said that at 3:39 a.m. Friday they responded to an alarm at a Gulf gas station on East Main Street. Officers arrived to find that a rear door had been forced open and a west side window of the gas station was broken, a police report stated. According to the report, as officers continued to check the area they found a shed had been forced open and a man was inside.
The man, identified as 43-year-old Jeffery D. Pittman, of Flanders, was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and possession of burglar’s tools, a misdemeanor.
Pittman was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside in lieu of bail.
