Second Attempted Armed Robbery Reported in Riverhead
A man was held at gunpoint and beaten by two men trying to rob him Friday night in Riverhead, according to police.
Around 10 o’clock, officers were called to Rail Road Avenue. There, they met the victim, who said he was approached by two men while walking south on Griffing Avenue, just north of the railroad tracks, a police statement reads. One of the men grabbed him and pointed a handgun at him, demanding cash, according to the statement. The armed man then hit the victim with the butt of the gun in the head several times.
The armed man and the second man eventually ran away, with no cash from the victim, police said. The victim was treated and released at Peconic Bay Medical Center.
This was the second attempted armed robbery reported in Riverhead within the span of a day. At 6:15 Friday morning, a man reported that a woman held him at gunpoint while a man with a large rock demanded money and beat him.
