6 to 8 Inches of Snow Forecast for East End Saturday
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the eastern end of Long Island, in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday through 4 a.m. Sunday. During the watch period, 3 to 5 inches of snowfall is predicted; however, 6 to 8 inches is also a possibility.
Late Saturday morning will feature rain and snow, turning to snow around 3 p.m. Wind gusts could be as high as 38 miles per hour. During this time, 1 to 3 inches are possible. Then Saturday night, another 1 to 3 inches are in the forecast, with most snowfall before 9 p.m.
Travel may be hazardous as visibility is reduced to just a quarter of a mile at times. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible.
There is a chance of flurries after 3 p.m. Sunday.
