Man Drives into House in Hampton Bays, Charged with DWI
Shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, Southampton Town police received numerous 911 calls of a vehicle that had slammed into a house on Oakhurst Road in Hampton Bays, and after officers arrived they charged the vehicle’s driver with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
Police said they determined Geoffrey Croke, 48, backed his vehicle up very fast, striking a fence and a tree, then went over a retaining wall and struck the lower portion of the house. No one in the house was injured, though the structure sustained moderate damage, according to police. Hampton Bays Fire Department and Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance were on scene.
Croke, who was not injured, was held overnight then arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays.
