Driver Arrested in Southampton for Ferrying Drunken Teens Toward Montauk
New York State police arrested a 26-year-old Hempstead man, Luis A. Guevara-Henriquz, on Monday evening after he was found to be driving 42 intoxicated teens, ages of 16–17, toward Montauk in a limousine bus.
Police received a 911 report of a female screaming at the eastbound rest area between exits 65 and 66 on Sunrise Highway in Southampton. Upon arrival, troopers observed that the Coachman limousine bus from Farmingdale was loaded with teens “in various stages of intoxication.” The bus reportedly contained more than 100 cans of beer, along with several gallons of various opened and empty whiskey and rum bottles.
The youths were picked up earlier in the evening in Garden City with the intention of “cruising to Montauk.” Due to the intoxication of the youths, the amount of alcohol on board, and the condition of the bus, the driver, Guevara-Henriquz, was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child, while all the youths were turned over to their relatives.
Guevara-Henriquz was processed and issued an appearance ticket returnable to Southampton Town Court at a later date. Police said this investigation is ongoing with additional charges pending.
