Fire Completely Destroys Amagansett House
A house under contraction in Amagansett on Miankoma Lane was completely destroyed by a fire overnight.
Fire officials said that at 1:43 a.m.Thursday the Amagansett Fire Department was called to the structure fire, where the first to arrive found that the large house was “completely involved with the fire.”
Amagansett Fire Chief Dwane Denton called in East Hampton and Springs fire departments for mutual aid and a rapid intervention team from Sag Harbor Fire Department.
Using a “surround-and-drown” approach, firefighters fight the blaze with East Hampton’s tower ladder, deck guns and other large-diameter hose lines as the building had collapsed shortly after the arrival of the first units, fire officials said. Embers landed on the roof of a neighboring house igniting a fire that firefighters quickly extinguished.
Fire units were on scene until 6 a.m. soaking hot spots and the East Hampton Town fire marshal’s office was there to investigate.
