Southampton Hospital Now Offering Free Massage for Chemotherapy Patients
Southampton Hospital is now able to offer complimentary massage therapy to cancer patients thanks to a grant from Angie’s Spa.
Angie’s Spa is a 501(c)(3) charitable cancer foundation that funds programs with the express purpose of providing free therapeutic spa services to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Angie’s Spa has recently given Southampton Hospital a $13,500 grant that will now enable the hospital to expand its therapeutic services to cancer patients.
While every cancer patient’s experience may be different, most patients feel anxiety and fear. The fight against cancer is a tough, time-consuming, emotional and exhausting experience. Massage therapy is one way to greatly ease the suffering, tension and stress of patients.
Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Eastern Long Island Hematology/Oncology are eligible for the free service. The licensed massage therapists from Southampton Hospital’s Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute are providing services designed to alleviate painful side effects through relaxation, to enhance traditional treatments and to give cancer patients a self-esteem boost.
The recent grant funding has also allowed for expanded hours in Southampton and a new program for patients undergoing chemotherapy in the Riverhead office.
