Guild Hall's Celebrity-Filled Summer Lineup Has Great Plays, Music, Readings, More
East Hampton’s beloved center for the visual and performing arts is gearing up for a fabulous summer of theater, music, art galleries and exciting events.
Guild Hall’s hallmark summer benefit, the 2014 Season Spectacular, will be Saturday, July 5, featuring a performance by iconic comedian Martin Short.
Additionally, the beautiful jewel-box-style John Drew Theater will be home to a host of great theatrical productions throughout the season.
A run of Red, starring Victor Slezak and Christian Scheider, by Jonathan Logan and directed by Stephen Hamilton just ended. Tova Feldshuh does a star turn in a staged reading of Jenny Lyn Bader’s Mona Lisa Speaks, a one-woman show inspired by real events, on Sunday, June 29. Marlo Thomas, Greg Mullavey, Jim Stanek and Kate Wetherhead star in Joe DiPietro’s comedy Clever Little Lies from July 16 to August 3.
Also on August 3 is An Evening with David Sedaris, the essayist/performer, which is sure to entertain. Playwright and poet Lemon Andersen will present a staged reading of his latest work, ToasT, on Thursday, August 14. Christine Ebersole will perform on Sunday, August 17, followed by a staged reading of Eugene Pack’s Night With Oscar, starring Matthew Broderick, on Thursday, August 21. The hilarious Celebrity Autobiography night returns on Friday, August 22, with featured performers Alec Baldwin, Christie Brinkley and more, and actress and singer Linda Eder performs on Sunday, August 31.
Music and dance will also feature prominently in Guild Hall’s summer season. On Saturday, June 14, Ballet Hispanico arrives to perform Sortijas (Rings), a newly commissioned work by choreographer Cayetano Soto. Iconic drummer Corky Laing, known for his work with legendary band Mountain, hits the stage on Friday, June 27. On Wednesday, July 2, Guild Hall and Crossroads Music Showcase celebrate the music of Bob Dylan with cover band The Complete Unknowns. On Sunday, August 10, St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble performs, followed by The Doo-Wop Project with members of Broadway’s Jersey Boys on Monday, August 11. On August 30, Ben Folds appears.
The Guild Hall Comedy Nights series kicks off with star Sandra Bernhard, who will bring her unique wit, along with her band The Flawless Zircons, on Friday, June 20. Other comedy night participants include Jon Lovitz on Saturday, June 28, and John Leguizamo on Thursday, July 3. Baldwin will host the Hamptons International Film Festival SummerDocs screening series on June 21, July 25 and August 16. Other celeb appearances include Anthony Bourdain on August 10 and Martha Stewart on August 17, who will appear as part of the Stirring the Pot: Conversations with Culinary Celebrities series.
