Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation Seeks Baskets for Upcoming Benefit
The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation’s annual benefit at the Boardy Barn may not be for a few more months, but Hamptons residents can already help out. SASF is requesting donations of empty baskets for the fundraiser from now through August 1st.
The SASF Benefit on the evening of Saturday, September 6, will be a night of fundraising to support one of the largest shelters of the East End. The benefit will include food, drinks and dancing, as well as Chinese and silent auctions and 50-50 raffles.
SASF is a nonprofit possible through generous donations, holding benefits throughout the year. Additionally this summer, the shelter will host its 5th annual Unconditional Love Dinner Dance on Saturday, July 19.
Local citizens established SASF in 2010 after the Town of Southampton eliminated the preexisting Southampton Animal Shelter due to strict budget cuts. Since then, the shelter expanded to rescuing dogs from “kill shelters,” working to find homes for dogs from puppy mills. Additionally, SASF supports veterinary services including a clinic and public spay and neuter procedures.
Donations to the shelter can be made online through a variety of methods. Monetary donations include opportunities to sponsor a pet or a spay/neuter mobile clinic. For $75, residents can sponsor a pet at the shelter. Sponsoring a mobile clinic event is $1,200. Interested volunteers may also donate directly to the shelter’s training program, “Playing for Life!” Additionally, one time donations are available on the website.
Like the basket donations for the benefit, SASF accepts other item donations. The website southamptonanimalshelter.com includes a wish list of supplies for dogs and cats at the shelter.
Baskets for the Boardy Barn event may be dropped off at the shelter from now through August t during their normal hours of operation from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Southampton Animal Shelter is located at 102 Old Riverhead Road in Red Creek Park, Hampton Bays.
