Bishop Reps Military Academy as Dems Win 6th Consecutive Congressional Baseball Game
Congressman Tim Bishop, of Southampton, appeared at the 53rd annual Congressional Baseball Game on June 25, supporting the Democrat team.
Sporting a white and blue United States Merchant Marine Academy uniform, the congressman started at third base, walked twice and was hit by a pitch. This was his 12th appearance for the annual charity game.
“I was proud to represent the students, staff and alumni of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy during this year’s game. The institution does a remarkable job training our next generation of military and maritime transportation leaders,” Bishop said in a statement released by his office. “The congressional baseball game provides a chance for us to set aside partisan differences and build relationships with our colleagues, while raising money for worthwhile charitable organizations.”
Bishop was spotted sitting next to Congressman John Shimkus, the Republican pitcher, at the game. The two representatives have sat next to each other during the past three State of the Union addresses as a bipartisan gesture of goodwill.
Each year, the game’s gate receipts are donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, the Washington Literacy Center and the Nationals Dream Foundation. This year’s game raised nearly $400,000 for the charities.
The Democrats won the game for the sixth time in a row, 15-6.
