East End Tech: Summer – There’s an App for That!
Summer is upon us—time to start thinking about how we’re going to best enjoy ourselves. “There’s an app for that” may be an overused statement, but there really is an app for everything. Here
are some handy apps for your summer on the East End.
Trippy (trippy.com) is a travel platform that aims to make your life significantly easier when it comes to researching your vacation. Tired of page after page of vague and unhelpful user reviews on Yelp and other sites? Trippy is for you. With a carefully moderated, top-notch community of qualified travelers and local experts, the simple question and answer approach that it takes cuts to the quick, providing you with only the useful information that you need. Whether you want to explore areas of the Hamptons that you haven’t seen, or take a vacation elsewhere,
Trippy will help.
Gett (gett.com) is NYC’s ultimate black car app. Open the easy-to-use app and within minutes a black luxury car or SUV will be on its way to pick you up! Now offering service to the Hamptons, Gett has fixed and transparent pricing, 24/7 customer service and no surge pricing. Best of all? No cash required. Pay and tip with your credit card and have a receipt sent straight to your email.
Blade (flyblade.com) is for those who want to travel in ultimate style and luxury. Open the Blade app, pick a time, and you get a glass of wine, a copy of the newspaper and a seat in a helicopter that will get you from NYC to the Hamptons (or vice versa!) in just 35 minutes, for $500. Don’t want to wait? charter your own flight, then open up the other seats on the helicopter to the public, and pay as little as a regular flight if all the seats fill up. Best of all, if your flight is cancelled for any reason at all, a Maserati sedan is waiting on standby to get you to your destination.
Uber (uber.com) also has service in (and to) the Hamptons. The “original” black car app, Uber offers flat rates of $300–$500 for NYC to the East End, as well as all three levels of Uber service: the uberX, which costs the least, the UberBLACK (the “first” Uber) and the UberSUV, which is ideal for families.
Waze (waze.com) Prefer to drive yourself? Waze is a hot new community-based traffic and navigation app that allows users to update one another on specific situations going on. Rather than just a red road indicating heavy traffic, Waze allows users to indicate the situation—whether it’s construction, an accident, a speed trap or just plain old gridlock—and updates your route accordingly. Users can add their own information to the app, alerting those around them to road hazards and saving everyone a bunch of time when it comes to getting where they’re going!
WunWun (wunwun.com) provides on-demand delivery of nearly anything in the Montauk and Southampton area. Are you craving a lobster roll from the Clam Bar, or veal milanese from 75 Main, but don’t feel like leaving the house? WunWun will bring it directly to you, in under an hour. It’s not limited to just food—nearly anything you can think of can be brought to you. And there’s no delivery charge, just the purchase price. On top of that, they’ll do custom orders that don’t involve purchases. Want someone to pick up your dry cleaning, or pick up a friend from the airport? WunWun can help with that, too.
