Southampton Police: Man Arrested at Home After Fleeing Turnpike Crash
Rafael M. Horcasitas, 53, was arrested at home in Bridgehampton Sunday evening after he crashed a truck into a utility pole and fled the scene on foot, police said.
According to Southampton Town police, several 911 callers reported a pickup truck struck a pole on Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike at 6:34 p.m., and witnesses reported the driver left on foot.
The turnpike was closed for three hours as utility workers repaired the pole.
Horcasitas, who police identified as the driver, was located at his home and found to have no driver’s license, and a suspended driving status. Additionally, the vehicle lacked an ignition interlock device, which was required by a court order, police said.
Horcasitas was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and circumventing an interlock device, both misdemeanors, as well as unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and violating conditions of his license, all traffic infractions.
Sag Harbor Fire Department also responded to the accident scene.
