Cops: Serial East End Pocketbook Thief Arrested
Andre Berube, 37, of Blue Point, was arrested Friday following an investigation into a number of pocketbook thefts from vehicles parked in eastern Suffolk County.
Police said Berube targeted horse farms, mainly in Manorville and Southampton. He then used the credit cards found in the vehicles to make purchases, authorities said.
Suffolk County Police Department Seventh Squad and Southampton Town Police Department detectives investigated and determined Berube was responsible for the string of thefts. He was arrested in East Patchogue near the Sunrise Highway and Route 112 intersection.
Suffolk police charged Berube with six counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Southampton Town police charged him with fourth-degree grand larceny.
