Italian-American State Legislators Offer College Scholarships
New York State Senator Ken LaValle and the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators plan to award $10,000 in college scholarships to future and current college students.
Four awards of $2,500 each will be awarded, and students do not need Italian heritage to apply.
“With the high expenses of college, students should take advantage of every opportunity to offset the costs,” LaValle said. “I’m hopeful that students in my district apply for the awards. Nothing would make me more proud than to have a resident of my district be selected to receive one of the scholarships.”
Applicants will be judged based upon grade point average, interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community, as well as individual financial need.
The deadline for filing is Monday, April 27. The scholarships are scheduled to be awarded at the Conference’s annual Legislative Conference Day in June.
