Ann Liguori Hosts 17th Annual Golf Classic at Friar’s Head
In benefit of cancer prevention, the Ann Liguori Foundation supported numerous organizations with a charity golf outing at Friar’s Head in Riverhead last Monday, May 18.
Overlooking the Long Island Sound, Friar’s Head, along with the foundation, held the charity event for organizations such as the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and cancer research grants and support for Kids Need More, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings on Shelter Island.
The Ann Liguori Foundation also supports a sports media scholarship that is administered by the New York chapter of Women in Communications. Stony Brook University student Nicole Gartner was this year’s recipient and as well volunteered the day of the event.
The day included golf with caddies, brunch, cocktails, buffet dinner, entertainment and silent and live auctions.
Ann Liguori, a sports talk show host, author and reporter, has hosted an annual charity golf tournament in the Hamptons for 17 years and established the Ann Liguori Foundation seven years ago. Liguori also covers major golf championships for CBS Sports Radio Network and WFAN Radio.
The foundation recognized business leader Vincent Ponte of Ponte Equities at the event this year in honor of his excel in both the business world and philanthropic arena.
Scott Salmirs of ABM, the 2014 Business Honoree and Jim Halpin of Platinum Maintenance, the 2013 Business Honoree also joined in on the events festivities.
Liguori also presented awards to Ken Bakst, the owner of the Friar’s Head, Anthony Francis, the director of operations at Friar’s Head, and Adam McDaid, the head golf professional at Friar’s Head.
The Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic has been played in the Hamptons since 1998 on many golf courses throughout the East End such as Westhampton Country Club, Hampton Hills, Olde Vine, Maidstone, Sebonack Golf Club and The Bridge. This is the second year that the tournament was played on Friar’s Head.
