Who Has the East End's Best Frozen Yogurt?
The competition is fierce in this year’s Dan’s Best of the Best contest, and a number of businesses have risen to the top of the heap, but the voting isn’t over yet.
As promised, we’re continuing to look at some new categories for 2015 and we’re giving readers a little push to help choose their historic first-ever winners! This week, let’s look at the new Frozen Yogurt category and the 2015 nominees collecting votes on both the North and South Forks.
Our two North Fork contenders have shops on Main Road in Mattituck, making this a battle between neighbors. The upside? Provided readers cast a reasonable number of votes, both froyo shops will end up with a coveted Best of the Best award—but which will take home Platinum honors?
Currently in the lead, Magic Fountain (9825 Main Road, 631-298-4908magicfountainicecream.net) in Mattituck has been making homemade frozen treats and delighting customers with unique and creative flavors since 1977. A former Dairy Queen, this ice cream shop became anything but a corporate, cookie-cutter establishment. Magic Fountain is already our Gold winner in the Ice Cream category, so it only makes sense that the family-owned and operated shop gives their frozen yogurt a chance to shine.
Just behind them, nearby Yogurt Expressions (13175 Main Road, 631-298-7954 yogurtexpressions.com) in Mattituck has a wide range of flavors, fun yogurt dispensers built into the walls, late hours and a fun, casual atmosphere. Will they come from behind and take the top slot? Only time will tell.
On the South Fork, our nominees are also neighbors in the historic village of Sag Harbor.
Buddhaberry in Sag Harbor (125 Main Street, 631-808-3888 buddhaberry.com) is so sure of their quality and reputation, they turned Rihanna down at the door after hours this past summer! And unlike many froyo options, their offerings include five cultures, including three live probiotic strains selected for their digestive benefits and immune system strengthening. Buddhaberry has 12 regular flavors and oodles of unexpected and healthy topping choices, such as chia seeds, chocolate covered coconut, cocoa dusted acai berries and raw chopped nuts.
For Yummylicious in Sag Harbor (2-8 Main Street, 631-223-8119), the name says it all! This ice cream parlor and frozen yogurt shop draws customers in with it’s fun pink decor and colorful spherical lights, but they keep coming back for the yummy frozen treats. Flavors such as salted caramel pretzel and birthday cake make for a decadent, unforgettable froyo experience.
