'Homegrown' Artists Exhibit in Hampton Bays
Six local Hampton Bays artists will be displaying work at the Hampton Bays Public Library during the month of November. The show, aptly titled Homegrown, will include painting, photography, mixed media work and driftwood constructions, including birdhouses and paintings framed with driftwood.
“The theme of the month is finding balance,” says Alex Goetzfried, one of two photographers in the show. “We live in a techie-tech world where everyone has the ability to shoot fine art pictures on their phone at any moment of any day,” he adds in the show’s announcement. “Finding balance in a technology driven world while not losing your soul is the line all of our artists try to walk on a daily basis,” Goetzfried continues, adding, “Balance is the key to life and this idea is a theme that will run through all different forms of art on display.”
The six artists—including Goetzfried, cellphone photographer Chris Rempe, painter Christine Bernroth, driftwood artist Sean “Mc” McSherry, painter and surfer Steve “Bedford” Brown and Carolyn Munaco—create across a wide spectrum, from using the most advanced and expensive digital cameras and graphic art programs to the simple purity of making art from things found at the beach.
The work will be installed at Hampton Bays Library (52 Ponquogue Avenue) on Sunday, November 1, and a public artists reception will occur on Friday, November 13 from 5:30–7 p.m. A reception after party will follow with apps and cocktails at One North Steakhouse.
