Long Island Green Homes Initiative Launches in East Hampton
A new program—the Long Island Green Homes Initiative—launched Tuesday in an effort to help East Hampton residents, regardless of income, take advantage of incentives for homeowner energy efficiencies and cost savings.
The state-sponsored program was launched by the Long Island Green Homes, a not-for-profit, public-private partnership with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, which notes that many money-saving improvements are eligible for cost reductions of up to 50 percent, depending on household income. The program is designed to stimulate local jobs and boost economic development in East Hampton, as well as to promote the sustainability and protection of our environment.
A new website, longislandgreenhomes.org, and specially trained “Energy Navigators” are now available to advise homeowners by phone and assist in identifying the full scope of rebates, discounts and low-cost available financing. The “Energy Navigators” help owners schedule a free home energy assessment, which produces a comprehensive analysis of a home’s energy efficiency and details a plan for upgrades designed to save money and improve the comfort of every home. This assessment also includes carbon monoxide safety testing.
“Residents in East Hampton have an excellent opportunity to call on the Long Island Green Homes Energy Navigators to get a free energy audit and start saving money now,” said Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell.
Kim Shaw, the town’s environmental protection director, said, “It takes a community to reach our energy goals. Here is a way East Hampton homeowners can get involved.”
As part of the effort to achieve these goals, the town board appointed an Energy Sustainability Advisory Committee to review and advise it on policies, programs, and issues promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Homeowners interested in reducing their home heating and cooling bills can receive a free energy audit by calling 1-800-567-2850 or by completing an application at longislandgreenhomes.org.
