Try Dan's Best Dessert in the Hamptons for 2015
Another year of Dan’s Best of the Best voting has come to a close. Awards have been handed out. Now it’s time to see what all the fuss is about. We continue our tour of 2015 winners today with the South Fork’s favorite dessert spots. Take a little time over Thanksgiving weekend and try some of these decadent delights.
Perhaps it should be no surprise that Tate’s Bake Shop in Southampton (43 North Sea Road, 631-283-9830, tatesbakeshop.com) tops the list with Dan’s Best of the Best Platinum honors. Kathleen King‘s humble local bakery has expanded into a comparatively massive cookie empire with national distribution in recent years, and despite the growth, Tate’s quality remains strong as ever. Whether it’s the famous chocolate chip cookies, red velvet cupcakes or gooey-good carrot cake, everything here is worth the calories. And Tate’s Bake Shop in Southampton has all sorts of goodies that you’ll never find on grocery store shelves. With the holiday season about to begin, look out for Tate’s delectable Crutchley’s Crullers, a treat beloved by generations of locals and kept alive after King bought the recipe from Crutchley’s, the original cruller king. It should also be noted that Tate’s won Platinum in 2015 for Dan’s Best of the Best Bakery and Cookies; Gold for Best of the Best Muffins; Silver for Coffee; and Bronze in the Coffee Shop category.

Another multi-Platinum winner and Best of the Best juggernaut, 75 Main in Southampton (75 Main Street, 631-283-7575, 75main.com) took home the Gold award for Dan’s Best of the Best Dessert in 2015. And oh what wonderful desserts! We’ve already proclaimed our undying love for the restaurant’s magnificent Liquid Cheesecake—chef Mark Militello’s deconstructed take on the classic dessert in a chocolate shell or angled glass—which mixes summer strawberry, underbaked cheesecake, graham cracker and walnut crust, and fresh whipped cream. But that’s not the only dazzling option. The light and fresh homemade sorbet is wonderful, as is the Oreo Cookie-Crusted Budino Pudding. This place has won a long list of Best of the Best titles in 2015, including Platinum for Best Cocktails, Best Brunch, Best Late Night Cuisine and Best Happy Hour; Gold for Best Night Spot, Best Bar, Best French Fries, Best Breakfast Spot, Best Continental Cuisine and Best Restaurant Atmosphere and Silver for Best Burgers and Best Steak. Clearly, 75 Main has all sorts of delicious eats, but definitely try dropping in for coffee and dessert.
Boom Burger in Westhampton Beach (85 Mintauk Highway, 631-288-9464, boomburgerwhb.com) won Dan’s Best of the Best Silver for Dessert in 2015. Like their Gold-winning burgers, desserts here are unique, creative and worth a visit on their own. Decadent Deep-Fried Oreos, Nutella Sandwiches, Fried Nutella and Fluff Sandwiches, PB&J Sandwiches, Fried PB&J Sandwiches and Deep-Fried Pop Tarts are all as lip-smackingly good as they sound. Boom Burger also won 2015 Platinum honors for Best Take Out Restaurant and Best Wings; Gold for Best Burgers; and Silver for Best French Fries. Run there now. You’ll want to burn some calories on the way.
