Watch: Jimmy Fallon, Billy Joel Perform 'Start Me Up' at Madison Square Garden
Sagaponack’s Jimmy Fallon surprised concertgoers at Billy Joel‘s monthly Madison Square Garden concert on Thursday, January 7. Fallon—who developed his Mick Jagger impression for Saturday Night Live—joined Joel in singing The Rolling Stones’ “Start Me Up.”
The concert was one day after Sag Harbor resident Joel returned to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, during which he was the musical guest and sat for an interview. Fallon joined Joel to cover another Rolling Stones song, “Beast of Burder,” and during a commercial break they sang Joel’s “For the Longest Time” and shared it on YouTube.
At MSG, Fallon took to the stage wearing a Rangers jersey with “Joel” written on the back. It was a very appropriate choice of wardrobe for the home of the New York Rangers. Then during the encore, Fallon returned to the stage—now wearing a black and white top—and sang a melody of “Sherry,” “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “Unchained Melody” with Joel.
