Southampton High Students Participate In Charity Champions Program
Student members of the Rotary Interact Club at Southampton High School were recognized Wednesday by Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman for participating in the seventh annual Charity Champions program from Optimum Community that promotes volunteerism and encourages area high schools to raise funds for a charity of their choice.
The school was presented with $1,000 to be donated to Long Island Cares, Inc., the students’ charity of choice.
Following opening remarks from Rotary Interact Club Advisor Sarah Fitzsimmons and Optimum Public Affairs Manager Kristen Thurber, Schneiderman recognized the students for their enthusiasm and commitment. A representative from Long Island Cares then spoke about the charity and was presented with a $1,000 check. After the check presentation, student members of the Rotary Interact Club hosted a “Bingo Night” fundraiser in the school cafeteria.
“Many of us do not realize just how many children and adults on Long Island go to sleep hungry at night,” Schneiderman said. “With our comfortable lives, it is very easy to forget those in need. For this reason, I applaud the students involved in the Charity Champions program for their commitment to helping others. They are terrific role models. I also commend Optimum Community for continuing to make this program available to the students in our area.”
“Through its ongoing Charity Champions program, Optimum Community continues to provide high school students with an opportunity to help those in need and better realize the importance of giving back,” said Jennifer Ostrager, Cablevision Vice President of Public Affairs. “We congratulate the students at Southampton High School for their participation.”
