'Sordid Lives' Opens January 14 in Southampton
Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center will present Del Shores’ Sordid Lives: A Comedy in Four Chapters this month, beginning Thursday, January 14.
Sordid Lives is often called a “black comedy about white trash.” Three generations of a family in a small Texas town gather for the funeral of their elderly family matriarch, whose death occurred during a clandestine meeting in a seedy motel. As preparations ensue, the hilarious, sad and trashy truth of this dysfunctional family is revealed. Some elements of the play come directly from Shores’ life. Sordid Lives is not only a stage play, but was a film and a short-lived TV series featuring Delta Burke, Beau Bridges and Olivia Newton-John. The original play premiered in Los Angeles in 1996 and won 14 Drama-Logue Awards. It has since become a notable and quotable cult classic.
Michael Disher and Joan Lyons direct.
Center Stage’s cast includes Tom Gregory, Edward Kassar, John Leonard, Deborah Marshall, Joseph Marshall, JoAnna Mincarelli, Mary Sabo, Frances Sherman, Danielle Shuman, Kristin Whiting, Gerri Wilson and Scott Wilson.
