Hamptons Visitors and Residents at 2016 SAG Awards

Hamptons Visitors and Residents at 2016 SAG Awards

Various Hamptons fans and residents were on hand and onstage at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Saturday. Some left with statues while others weren’t so lucky this year.

A big winner in 2016, and an actor who’s looking to be a favorite for Oscar gold, Montauk visitor Leonardo DiCaprio took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his work in Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s The Revenant. DiCaprio also earned a Golden Globe and Critic’s Choice Award in January, so it’s more than likely the actor will win his first golden statue at the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 28.

DiCaprio has previously been nominated for Academy Awards in 1993 for Best Supporting Actor in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? and for Best Actor in 2005 (The Aviator), 2006 (Blood Diamond) and 2013 (The Wolf of Wall Street), for which, as producer, he was also up for the Best Picture award.

None other than Montauk homeowner Julianne Moore presented DiCaprio with his award. While at the awards show, Moore met up with another Hamptons visitor, heartthrob Ryan Gosling.

Shelter Island’s Louis C.K. lost the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, for his show Louie on FX, to Jeffrey Tambor, who won for the lead role in Amazon Prime original Transparent. C.K. also earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical for Louie in 2015, and he won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for Louis C.K.: Live at the Comedy Store.

Hamptons regular Edie Falco was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for Showtime’s Nurse Jackie, but she lost to Uzo Aduba, who stars as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in the Riverhead-filmed Netflix hit Orange Is the New Black.

Orange Is the New Black also earned a statue for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. The ensemble includes recent Hamptons visitor Laura Prepon, who plays Alex Vause, the love interest/enemy of protagonist Piper Chapman on the women’s prison show.

Amagansett couple Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts joined Michael Keaton, Billy Crudup, John Slattery, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams and Brian d’Arcy James in accepting the SAG Awards for Cast in a Motion Picture for their film Spotlight
