Who Has the Best Gyro in the Hamptons?
Has spring cleaning made you work up an appetite? On the prowl for some great Greek food? The community has spoken—and these are the Hamptons’ best gyros according to Dan’s Best of the Best voters.
John Papas Cafe in East Hampton (18 Park Place, 631-324-5400, johnpapascafe.com) was the grand winner of Dan’s Best of the Best Platinum award for Best Gyro in 2015 and in 2014. The restaurant also won the Dan’s BOTB Bronze award for Best Luncheonette/Diner in 2015, and it achieved Silver honors for Best Luncheonette/Diner in 2014. In business for 20 years, this restaurant has become a community favorite. Their home style cooking, all-day breakfast, and Greek specialties for lunch and dinner make it easy to understand how they’ve earned the gyro crown.
The Hamptons Greek Festival in Southampton (11 Saint Andrews Road, 631-283-6169, hamptonsgreekfestival.com) won the Gold award for Dan’s Best of the Best Gyro, and though the festival won’t be opening until July 14, keep your taste buds ready for all the incredible traditional cooking the festival has to offer. With a combination of volunteer chefs and food vendors, the authenticity of these gyros can’t be beat.
Cromer’s Market in Sag Harbor (3500 Noyac Road, 631-725-9087, cromersmarket.com) earned the Silver award for Dan’s Best of the Best Gyro in 2015, along with the Gold award for Fried Chicken, the Silver award for Best Butcher, and the Bronze award for Best Farmer’s Market. In 2014, they won the Silver award for Best Gyro, and the Gold award for best Fried Chicken. In operation for over 25 years, Cromer’s Market has served the community by combining the convenience of a retail store and wholesale market. This, coupled with their eye for quality, assures customers their gyros are tasty, fresh and well prepared.
Princess Diner in Southampton (32 Montauk Highway, 631-283-7575, see their Facebook page) was given the Bronze award for Dan’s Best of the Best Gyro in 2015 and 2014, along with the Dan’s BOTB Bronze award for best Greek Restaurant in 2015. In 2014, Princess Diner also won the Gold award for best Luncheonette/Diner and the Platinum award for best Greek Restaurant.
