Artist Peter Treiber Jr. Shows at Greenport Harbor Brewing
Greenport Harbor Brewing Company’s new exhibition, New Stories Simply Told, showcasing the artwork of North Fork artist Peter Treiber Jr., is currently on view at the brewery’s Greenport location. An opening reception with the artist is scheduled for Saturday, November 19 from 6–9 p.m.
Creating both locally on his family farm—where he also works—and in his studio space at the Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn, Treiber uses his artwork as a means of dissection and discovery. Using reclaimed wood and fragments from vintage magazines, his work strives to discover the limits of the materials, thereby reinventing them and placing them in a new context and narrative that evokes both the surreal and the satirical.
Treiber’s wall mounted sculptures playfully mock rustic hunting trophies, while his paper collages range from absurd adverts to faded antique shop finds, all which bear a charming simplicity. He preserves the faded glory of his materials while he transports them to new areas, using both wit and subtlety.
New Stories Simply Told will be on view through January 31 at Greenport Harbor Brewing Company’s Greenport location (234 Carpenter Street). The tasting room/gallery is open Friday and Saturday 12–7 p.m. and Sundays 12–6 p.m. Call 631-477-1100 or visit harborbrewing.com.
In other news, Greenport Harbor Brewing is hosting Team Trivia Night at their Peconic location (42155 Main Road) every Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. They have a $10 beer and burger special during the game, and the winning team gets a $50 gift card.
