In a photo caption talking about her Smile Train Mission, Brinkley explains, “1 out of every 700 children is born with a cleft lip or palate. It’s the most common facial birth defect. In developing nations they lack the infrastructure and access to good medical care so children are forced to live often in shame with this problem that can cause malnutrition and limit their opportunity for success.” Before the trip, Brinkley asked fans to donate to the cause, and she gave proceeds from sales of “Smile Kits” from her skincare line.
