Photographer Michael Halsband at PechaKucha Night
In June of 2014, world famous East End photographer Michael Halsband shared his journey becoming one of the most well known and respected photographers working today at the Parrish Art Museum’s 8th PechaKucha Night Hamptons—an evening of rapid-fire presentations about living creatively on the East End.
Halsband has photographed legendary icons from the worlds of rock music, art, fashion and more. He photographed Keith Richards for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 1981 and was then asked by Mick Jagger to be The Rolling Stones’ tour photographer. He is also responsible for creating the unforgettable 1985 portrait of artists Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat for the poster advertising their collaborative show that year. Halsband’s storied career has led him to shoot multiple magazine and album covers, direct music videos and capture countless images of compelling subjects such as Johnny Depp and Hunter S. Thompson, Jim Carroll, Peter Tosh, Klaus Nomi, James Brown, AC/DC, Iggy Pop, Al Pacino, dancers from the School of American Ballet and surfers in Montauk, to name but a select few.
The next PechaKucha Night Hamptons, Volume 15, is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 11 at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill. Presenters include filmmakers Beatrice Alda and Jennifer Brooke, mathematics professor Moira Chas, architect Bruce Engel, adman Neil Kraft, Hayground School teacher Mbachi Kumwenda, musician Peter Landi, author and filmmaker Kenny Mann, artist Cindy Pease Roe, photographer Joni Sternbach and artist Evan Desmond Yee.
