“FIRST TIME IS A CHARM”
Hollywood heavies hit the Hamptons at a recent premiere screening of HOLLYWOODLAND at the UA Southampton Cinema. The film explores the real-life, mysterious death of “Superman,” actor George Reeves, played by Ben Affleck. Also starring in the film are Diane Lane and Adrien Brody, who both co-hosted the East End screening. It was an evening of “first times” for the cast, but that didn’t seem to slow anyone down. According to Diane Lane, “You would never know Allen Coulter is a first-time director. He is so over-qualified. This is a wonderful debut. I’m so grateful to have been in his first film. And, this is my first time flying in a helicopter to the Hamptons!” It is certainly not Brody’s first time on the big screen, but it is the first time he plays the role of a father and Adrien admitted, “This is a first for me. I have a son in the film.” Post-screening, the power crowd, including Barbara Walters, James Lipton, Rosanna Scotto, Marty Richards, Calvin Klein, Chuck and Ellen Scarborough, Michael Gelman, Joan Ganz Cooney, Pete Peterson, Carey Lowell. Clarissa Bronfman, Glen Williamson, Cornelia Guest, Arianna Huffington, Al Taubman, Nachos Figueras and Robert Wilson caravanned over to Savanna’s restaurant for a sit-down dinner and a champagne toast to the film’s success, which hits a theater near you, September 8th.

This past Saturday, celebrity photographer Patrick McMullan celebrated his birthday at The Jaguar Cain Estate hosted by designer Nicole Miller and Asian pop star Sun, who performed her U.S. debut single, “Gone” and has been busy recording with Wyclef Jean for her up-coming album. Sun got the crowd moving, including Patrick’s mom, Connie, holistic hottie, Cygalle Dias, who was also celebrating her birthday alongside boyfriend Richard Rubenstein, Paul Sevigny, Bettina Zilhka, Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, Jayma Cardoso, Daniel Benedict, Andrew Saffir, Chris Ford, Fabian Basabe, and Russell Simmons who was M.I.A. part of the evening, but later resurfaced upstairs in a private suite, surrounded by a plethora of model types. Late night the crew migrated over to Cain Southampton Club to join Jared Leto, Noah Tepperberg, and you guessed it, more models. Meanwhile, back in NYC, at around 3 a.m., Cain owner Jamie Mulholland and wife JoJo welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the Cain clan, weighing 8.3 pounds and appropriately named Ocean.

Just west of the Cain Casa, in Quogue on Dune Road, the rich and fabulous gathered at the ocean-front estate of Jill and Cliff Viner for the 1st Annual “Evening Under the Stars” which raised more than $100k benefiting The Diabetes Research Institute. Thanks to PR guru Shelly Clark of Lou Hammond & Associates, event extraordinaire extras Barton G and Richard Blais, hundreds of VIPS including guests Jay S. Skyler, M.D., Risa and Jeff Pulver, Rose and Donald Billings, Regina Policastro, Beatrice Clancy, Sara Gayer, Nicole B. Brewer and Melissa Palma, feasted on nitrogen-fueled ice cream and sugar-free desserts while experiencing the incomparable Patti LaBelle, who performed with the help of Damascene Pierre Paul, Debra Henry, and Mary Griffin, who performed some of La Belle’s classic hits, “On my Own,” and “New Attitude.” During “Lady Marmalade,” Patti randomly plucked two partygoers from the audience and unexpectedly snatched up her “ex” publicist of twenty years, Ed Callaghan. It took LaBelle a few verses until she realized the coincidence and then suddenly the two embraced and had a very public, emotional reunion. When I asked LaBelle who her musical inspirations are, she laughed, “I don’t have any!” Patti starts touring late September to promote her upcoming Gospel album which hits stores mid-October.
