BEACH BOYS BLOOPERS

Dear Dan,
Just a few corrections from your September 1 issue.
Understandably, it is a very proud moment for your son and his band to have the Beach Boys “Open” for them. However, there are some mentions that point out that your attention was distracted when it comes to the Beach Boys.
Brian Wilson has not “passed on”- he is alive and well. You may be referring to Carl, or Dennis – I don’t know? As a matter of fact, although Brian Wilson and Mike Love (cousins to each other) have been estranged for some time, there is talk of a reunion soon.
Secondly, if the Beach Boys played the song incorrectly referred to as “Daddy Took my T-Bird Away”; you must mean “Fun, Fun, Fun”. There is no such line like that in the song at all. The closest thing is “She’ll have fun, fun, fun, ‘till her daddy takes her T-bird away”.
Not too accurate about the Beach Boys – I’m sure you’re pretty accurate about your son.
Be proud of him.

STAR BRIGHT

Dear Dan,
Thanking you with all my heart for posting again in Letters To The Editor and next page ad about Star, my grey cockatiel.
I am so sad, missing Star, who was always flying around the loft and hanging around me. He is this Great Spirit in the form of a bird, his eyes watching over me and talking in the most marvelous way.
I just want him back. He is on my mind all the time.
My son Jacob is also devastated. Star’s name is a composite of STefan my oldest son and ARmand JAcob my younger one.
I am praying to get Star back and am so thankful to you, Dan, Maria, Kathy, Leif and all at Dan’s Papers for showing me such great support. You all are a proof that the world can be a gentle and loving place.
On August 26, I brought Star the second time to the Hamptons to the Enclave Inn in Southampton, because I wanted him to be around with me, and it is such a strange irony, that for all my concern and care, such an accident happened.
Star tried to fly to me and I got frightened, realizing that he got out of the room, I screamed and up he went startled. He landed on a high tree and was whistling back to me. Then it got very dark. I was hoping so much that, surely in the next morning I would manage to get him down from the tree, as I heard him whistle. It began to rain and I did not hear from him again. We hope he was found and is safe.
A few years ago something similar happened in the New York City. As Star is always on my head or on my shoulders. I went out the door and Star got frightened and flew all the way to First Avenue. I could not believe my eyes. I called to him, and he made a turn in mid air and flew back into the street and landed on the top floor fire stairs of the building on a diagonal from where we were living on 22nd Street. Everyone in the street was calling and my son Stefan went up to the tenant, who was at home, luckily.
Star jumped on Stefan’s finger and we all cried in joy.
Hope it happens again……To get Star back.
My best.

BEAUTY BATTLE

Dear Dan,
I implore the town to consider the East End artist and NOT make the proposed amendments to Chapter 225 of the East Hampton town code, which will greatly hinder the work of many people who help to make East Hampton what is has been for a long time and can hopefully remain to be. These amendments, which greatly limit what an artist’s studio can have, will inevitably change the nature of the artist’s environment here, and how we can work and live. Instead of preserving the artistic enclave that, in part, defines the Hamptons, I can see that it will, instead, contribute to the destruction of the artists’ habitat.
I know we have big problems with illegal housing, but punishing artists is not the answer in resolving them. It seems an easy target, when there are much bigger housing offenses at play. I’m sure it is more difficult to monitor and enforce those larger illegal uses, and certainly they involve code that is more readily abused. Perhaps the town feels good about beginning their “housekeeping” by starting with small easy rooms that in many cases don’t even need cleaning. But really, it is the big dirty rooms with the major issues that need to be confronted instead. Like art in progress, it is a process that must be faced, no matter how much laundry we can do in the meantime.
