Some Straight Talk About Your Looks

On Tuesday, March 20, Dr. Alexander Covey of East End Laser Care in Southampton, New York City and Center Moriches will conduct a free seminar focusing on the latest advancements in cosmetic procedures. Although the seminar is free, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the Family Service League.
At the seminar, Dr. Covey will discuss the latest cosmetic procedures including the new Fraxel Laser (Fractional Resurfacing), Volumalift, Mesotherapy, Thermage, Botox, Collagen, Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse. “There are so many new and exciting advances in non-surgical cosmetic treatments,” says Dr. Covey. “This seminar will help cut through the confusion and explain how these amazing treatments can be used to make you look and feel your best.”
Dr. Covey is one of the first physicians to bring Fraxel to this area. This laser treatment offers true skin resurfacing for all skin types with dramatic results and without the downtime of invasive lasers. Fraxel achieves this by treating only 20-25% of the skin at a time, which allows the treatment to be spread out over a few sessions, making it more comfortable for the patient and eliminating downtime. Skin conditions typically treated by Fraxel include deeper lines and wrinkles, severe acne and acne scarring, and Melasma (pigment changes due to hormones).
Another popular new treatment is Volumalift, which is considered an “Instant Injectable Facelift” that makes the face appear more youthful without having to endure the recovery of a traditional facelift. Instead of pulling the skin taut over sunken areas of the face like a surgical facelift, the Volumalift actually “re-inflates” the hollow, gaunt areas of the face including the eyebrows, under-eye area, cheeks and jowls to restore a youthful appearance.
Mesotherapy is a revolutionary, no surgery, no downtime, and no discomfort treatment, and can “actually dissolve fat,” according to Dr. Covey. It can lessen the appearance of cellulite, bags under the eyes, love handles, belly fat and problem areas such as the thighs, knees, back and buttocks.
Thermage, also known as ThermaLift, is the most effective, non-surgical, skin-tightening treatment available and has been discussed on Oprah and in many women’s magazines as another “non-surgical facelift.” Thermage corrects skin laxity (sagging) by “using controlled radio frequency energy to tighten tissue and replenish collagen.” This treatment is especially effective when used on the eyelids and under-eye areas.
Laser Treatments, such as laser wrinkle reduction and laser hair removal, are some of the most popular cosmetic treatments among patients of all ages and body types. Laser wrinkle reduction is an amazing wrinkle treatment with no downtime and that requires no anesthesia. After the laser treatment, wrinkles begin to improve in 30-90 days, naturally. This is because the laser uses “yellow” light to stimulate the body’s natural collagen and soften lines and wrinkles. Laser hair removal can be performed on almost any area of the body including the upper lip, bikini area, underarms, back and chest.
Fillers such as Botox, Collagen, Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse will also be discussed at Dr. Covey’s seminar. Botox is so popular because it works – it lessens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and helps restore a more youthful and relaxed look. Restylane injections, made famous by Jessica Simpson’s luscious new pout, is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that is used to restore fullness lost with time, or add fullness where it is wanted most. Juvederm is one of the “smoothest, most advanced fillers on the market today,” says Dr. Covey and it is another option for patients seeking a similar effect to that of Restylane. Juvederm is a gel filler while most other fillers of its kind are particle fillers. Juvederm is particularly effective in correcting wrinkles around the mouth and enhancing lips. Radiesse is one of the newest FDA approved fillers that can soften “smile lines” and other facial imperfections with results often lasting one to two years.
