FRIDAY, APRIL 27

FACULTY/STUDENT BASKETBALL- At 7 p.m. a faculty/student basketball game hosted by Mattituck-Cutchogue Teachers Association at Mattituck High School. Proceeds benefit MCTA scholarship fund.

BASKETWEAVING- At 4 p.m. check out Howard Jewett of Mattituck gives basketweaving demonstration and discusses the art's history at Peconic Landing auditorium, Greenport. Free. Dorothy, 631-477-3800.

SATURDAY, APRIL 28

BIRDING WITH JODY- 8 a.m. check out Birding with Jody Levin at Dam Pond, East Marion, offered by North Fork Audubon Society. Meet to carpool at Red House, Inlet Pond County Park in Greenport, or meet at Dam Pond. Nonmembers, $5. 631-765-1746, www.northforkaudubon.org.

CHURCH TOURS OF THE NORTH FORK- From noon-4 p.m. the North Fork Arts Project offers 'Pilgrimage to Historic North Fork Churches' as part of its spring program. Tour includes three presentations: Organist Don Boerum discusses Orient Methodist Church's and demonstrates its Hook-Hastings pipe organ, (12:30 p.m.), Southold Historical Society director Geoffrey Fleming gives tour of First Presbyterian Church of Southold and adjacent colonial burial ground (2 p.m.), and Wendy Prellwitz, great-granddaughter of Peconic School artists Henry and Edith Prellwitz, discusses Edith's 1926 mural at First Universalist Church of Southold (3:15). MEDIEVAL MUSIC- At 4 p.m. check out Fons Musica presenting 'A Tapestry of Medieval Music' at Floyd Memorial Library, Greenport. Sponsored by Friends of the Library. Free. 631-477-0660.

TRAINER FOR A DAY- What does it take to work with Seals or Seal Lions? Guests can find out at the Trainer for a Day program at Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead. Every Saturday, Kids (10 years and up) and adults join our Marine Mammal staff on a Saturday to go behind-the-scenes at Atlantis Marine World. Part of the more than two-hour session even includes private observation of the California Sea Lion Training and Feeding Session. The experience is capped off with a photo of the "Trainer for a Day" getting a kiss from a Seal. 631-208-9200

BOOKSIGNING- 11 a.m. Check out a book signing for ages 9 and up. They are invited to meet author Catherine Creedon, who wrote novel "Blue Wolf," at Mattituck-Laurel Library. Copies available for purchase and signing. 631-298-4134.

BLUES MUSIC- 8 p.m. check out the 'Pickin' at the Berkner,' blues/rock concert at Brookhaven National Laboratory's Berkner Hall, Upton. COMING UP

STREET PAINTING FESTIVAL, MAY 27- 11th Annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival, presented by the East End Arts Council, will be held on Sunday, May 27th from 12-5, (rain date May 31). The Community Mosaic is a FREE, day-long celebration of the arts, held on the grounds of the Arts Council, on Main Street, and along the Peconic Riverfront. RELAY FOR LIFE GOLF TOURNAMENT, JUNE 1- The Riverhead Relay for Life will hold its third annual golf tournament on Friday, June 1, at the Rock Hill Golf and Country Club in Manorville, NY. A registration fee of $135.00 per golfer includes a 12:00 p.m. barbecue luncheon, a cart, unlimited range balls, and an open bar and dinner. There will be a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start and there will be trophies, prizes, gifts, raffles, and entertainment. Come and join our tradition of fine golf and great fun. Non golfers are welcome to join us for drinks and dinner at 6:30 p.m. for $50.00 per person. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. CUSTER OBSERVATORY- Weather permitting Custer staff will be on hand to assist visitors in observing the night sky using their telescopes. From sunset until midnight in Southold. Call 631-765-2626.
